Category:Intern

Maria has a 12-month appointment as a Research Assistant with the Commission.  She comes to us from Germany where she obtained her B.Sc. in Agricultural Sciences from Martin Luther University, Halle, Germany.  She received her M.Sc. in Process and Quality management from Humboldt University, Berlin, Germany.

Maria gained her first practical experience in tree fruit during a six month internship at a fruit growing farm. During this time she carried out several research experiments focused on the influence of thinning methods on various fruit quality parameters. After graduating from Martin Luther University in 2007, she gained further experience at the Institute for Agriculture (ATB). Working with bees and their importance for our environment excited her so much, that she bought some hives three years ago. During Maria’s masters program at Humboldt-University in Berlin, she worked 1-1/2 years as an assistant for the ATB in Potsdam. Her work focused mainly on intelligent containers for long distance shipping of bananas.

Maria has come to the WTFRC to get to learn about different training systems of tree fruit crops, improve her English skills and get to know the American culture.  Her hobbies include cooking with friends, hiking, swimming and gardening.
